“Processing,” a free, open-source project started by Ben FRY and Casey REAS at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is a general computer programming environment that has been widely utilized in the creation of graphical interactive pieces since the turn of the century. Since its release in 2001, it has been used not only by artists, but also by students, researchers and designers, and the software continues to be customized in various ways today. The Processing.org website was honored as a Jury Selection by the Japan Media Arts Festival.
