This work depicts the mountains of rubble produced by the Great East Japan Earthquake in life-size scale. The artist has attempted to convey the reality of the rubble in both image and substance by layering oil paint atop a photograph he took. The work’s actual size, an element that cannot be experienced through other media such as video or text, further imparts a realistic experience to visitors. This work represents the artist’s critical expression denouncing disaster information when confined merely to knowledge.
